Stephen Ministers are trained lay men and women with special gifts for caring
and compassion who provide confidential, Christian, one-on-one care to
individuals facing challenges in their lives. Although not professional
counselors, Stephen Ministers seek to bring Christ's healing love to those who
are grieving, in crisis, or experiencing other stresses in life through careful
listening, uplifting prayer and knowledge of community resources.
How
does Stephen Ministry work? When you request a Stephen Minister, a Stephen
Leader meets with you, explains the ministry in detail, and matches you with an
available Stephen Minister (we can find Stephen Ministers from another church if
you so desire). Your Stephen Minister then calls and begins meeting with you
for about an hour a week for as long as you wish to receive care.
St. Mark offers Stephen Ministry to both our congregation and our larger community.
